How To Make Sure Your Home Move Goes Smoothly

Posted in: Removal Tips

When you’re moving home, the word ‘smoothly’ probably isn’t one you would associate with the process. It can sometimes feel like every job completed leads to another 10 that need addressing, so it’s no wonder moving home can be so very stressful.

Moving home will more than likely be difficult in some shape or form, there’s no getting around it. However there are ways you can make the process run as efficiently as possible, so here are some tips to help you make sure your home move goes as close to perfect as you could wish for.

Start Early

Unfortunately many of us experience denial when it comes to moving home and we simply put off packing and organising until we get to the week before and start frantically throwing items in boxes, bin bags and containers in an effort to be ready on time. This is by far the worst possible approach and will cause you exceptional stress in the lead up to the move and when you’re at your new property sorting through boxes of items that are completely mismatched. Start early and plan ahead. Maybe you could pack up a room per weekend, or a cupboard a night. Whatever works for you, do it and stick to your schedule, you will thank yourself down the line.

Accept The Fact That There Will Be Stressful Times

You will feel stressed at some point during your move. Even if you simply get emotional because you’re leaving a family home. Accept that things might get tough at some point, but also accept that it’s not forever and everything will work out in the end.

Arm Yourself With The Right Equipment

Don’t plan to pack a room at the weekend and go into it empty handed. Buy bin bags, sticky labels, packing tape and packing boxes to ensure nothing will stop you getting that room packed up. Don’t know how to pack the room? Consider approaching a removal company to help you out, they charge reasonable prices and have flexible packages to suit you.

Get Your Paperwork Right

The paperwork involved in moving house is never ending, there’s no doubt about it. But one slip up with important paperwork could end in disaster, so anticipate these issues and work to resolve them before things get messy. You should know exactly what is meant to complete or be signed and of course when the deadlines are. If you at least understand the deadlines and paperwork you can adapt to changes as and when they come, which they will.

Give Yourself As Much Time As Possible

When you’re moving within a property chain, the time in which you have to move can be tight, in fact it isn’t uncommon for people to have to move out of their property within a few hours sometimes. Anticipate this and give yourself as much time as you possibly can. If you have the ability to move your items across over the period of a week, do so. If you have the ability to start packing or sorting months in advance, do so. Wherever you can create extra time, create it without hesitation.

Give The Family Jobs And Tasks

You don’t have to do this alone. Let your children know that they need to start working their way through old toys and boxes to decide what they do and don’t want. Of course you will have the final say in this, but it’s a good way to get them used to the idea that some of their favourite toys will be in storage for a small amount of time while you move. A good thing to do is give them a box and tell them they are only allowed to keep with them what fills the box, no more. In regards to your partner, the more you can work together the better so try and share the workload where possible to prevent arguments.

Hire A Removal Company

If you really don’t have the time, energy or know how to complete a move on your own, relieve yourself of the job and hire a removal company. They are completely flexible in the packages they provide and they offer extremely competitive prices. It might be an extra cost to factor in, but it will be one that saves you a huge amount of stress and strain and one that ensures your move runs smoothly.
